Choosing a mode
The routes we run from Ranchi range from Patna at about 340 km to Bangalore at about 1,800 km. That spread is why the answer is not the same for every move out of this city.
Patna, about 340 km on NH 33, is the run our Ranchi drivers do most often. A comfortable single day drive.
We board at Ranchi Junction (RNC) or Hatia (HTE) and handle the parcel office paperwork there. On Raipur, about 600 km, this is usually the best value of the three modes.
Flights leave from Birsa Munda Airport (IXR) at Hinoo, Ranchi, which is about 7 km from Ranchi, with Jamshedpur served through Ranchi or Kolkata from the city, so the run to the cargo terminal is part of the plan rather than an afterthought. On Bangalore at about 1,800 km, flying turns a multi day journey into a few hours.

Dogs
The dogs we are asked about most in Ranchi are Labradors, German Shepherds, Indies, Spitz. Large breeds do best by road, where there is no crate size limit and no cargo hold. Pugs are common here and we keep them off flights where we can, because several airlines will not carry a snub nosed dog at all.
Distances from Ranchi are long enough that a lot of dog moves here go by train or air. Bangalore at about 1,800 km works out at roughly 35 hours of driving, which is more than most dogs should do in one go.

Patna at about 340 km goes by road. For the Bangalore run we board at Ranchi Junction (RNC), in a first AC coupe or in 2nd and 3rd AC with a handler alongside.
