The routes we run from Mumbai range from Pune at about 150 km to Kolkata at about 1,960 km. That spread is why the answer is not the same for every move out of this city.
Pune, about 150 km on NH 48, is the run our Mumbai drivers do most often. A short expressway hop, easily done in a morning.
We board at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) or Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) and handle the parcel office paperwork there. On Chennai, about 1,330 km, this is usually the best value of the three modes.
Flights leave from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) at Andheri, which is 5 to 40 km depending on your suburb from the city, so the run to the cargo terminal is part of the plan rather than an afterthought. Our longest regular route, Kolkata at about 1,960 km, is the one where people ask about it most.

Dogs
The dogs we are asked about most in Mumbai are Indies, Labradors, Beagles, Shih Tzus, Pugs. Large breeds do best by road, where there is no crate size limit and no cargo hold. Pugs and Shih Tzus are common here and we keep them off flights where we can, because several airlines will not carry a snub nosed dog at all.
Most dog moves out of Mumbai are road jobs: 6 of the 10 routes we run from here go by vehicle. We use NH 48 towards Pune on the busiest of them, Pune.
Cats
Persian cats make up most of the cat moves we run out of Mumbai.
Pune at about 150 km goes by road. For the Kolkata run we board at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), in a first AC coupe or in 2nd and 3rd AC with a handler alongside.
