How does fish transport work in India?

Fish travel sealed in oxygen packed bags of conditioned water, inside insulated boxes that hold temperature steady. That packing keeps them safe for a limited window, which is why journey time decides everything here.
Road is the usual choice, because it is door to door with no waiting at a counter. Train suits faster long routes. Air depends on the airline and the species, so we check rather than promise.
Stop feeding 24 to 48 hours before travel. A fed fish fouls its bag, ammonia builds up in a sealed volume of water, and that is what actually kills fish in transit rather than the movement itself.

How fish are packed
The packing is the whole job. Once a bag is sealed, nothing can be adjusted until it is opened at the other end.

What decides whether a fish move works
We would rather tell you this before you book than explain it afterwards. Fish are genuinely the hardest thing we carry.
Temperature swings, not temperature
Fish handle a steady temperature outside their ideal far better than a fluctuating one inside it. Insulated boxes exist to stop the swing, not to heat the water.
Species and aggression
Bettas and many cichlids cannot share a bag with anything. Bagging them together to save space is how you arrive with fewer fish than you sent.
Marine is much harder than freshwater
Marine species and corals are far less tolerant of transit than freshwater fish. We will be straight with you about whether a long marine move is worth attempting.

Can aquarium fish be transported long distance?

How should I prepare my fish for a move?
Stop feeding 24 to 48 hours before travel. This is the single most important thing you can do, because an unfed fish produces far less waste and ammonia in a sealed bag is the main cause of losses.
Keep the tank water quality good in the days before, and have the destination tank cycled and ready before your fish arrive rather than after.
What is the best way to move fish?
Road, for most routes. A pet taxi is door to door with no waiting at a counter or terminal, which keeps total journey time down and lets us control temperature throughout.
On long routes a fast train can beat a two day drive. Air looks fastest but terminal handling at both ends often cancels out the advantage.
How long can fish survive in a transport bag?
It depends on species, size, water volume and temperature, so we will not print a single number that could mislead you. Smaller fish in a properly oxygenated bag last considerably longer than a large or heavily bodied one.
Tell us the species and quantity and we will tell you honestly what your route means for them, including when we think a move should not be attempted.
Can different fish share a bag?
Some can, many cannot. Bettas and most cichlids travel alone. Peaceful community species of similar size can share where the water volume supports them.
Packing incompatible fish together to save on bags is a false economy that we will talk you out of.
What happens when my fish arrive?
Float the sealed bags in the destination tank so the temperature equalises, then introduce tank water into the bag slowly over a period before releasing the fish.
Tipping a bag straight into a tank is what kills fish that survived the whole journey. We talk you through this at handover.
Do you move marine fish and corals?
We will discuss it, though we will also be honest about the risk. Marine species and corals are far less tolerant of transit than freshwater fish, and a long move carries real losses.
For a short route it is often workable. For a cross country move we would rather tell you our reservations first.
How much does fish transport cost?
Every fish move is quoted individually, because the number of bags, the packing and the journey time vary far more than they do for other pets.
